The 2nd Annual Online Summer Institute for Community Colleges (OSICC) will be held on June 9 and 10, 2010. This year's theme is Leadership for Today; Leadership for Tomorrow. The annual event, co-hosted by Fielding Graduate University and Learning Times, is staged to become one of the most significant gatherings of leaders in the community college movement.
U.S. Undersecretary for Education, Martha Kanter, will be the keynote speaker. In preparing her remarks, she has said, "Becoming a community college leader in the 21st century presents new opportunities and challenges like never before. There is no greater privilege I can imagine than being selected to lead an institution of higher education."
The focus of the conference will be on the development of leadership in community colleges. Seven sessions over two days will provide a platform for dialogue and information exchange for non-degree development initiatives at the national, state, and local levels - including those with a diversity emphasis.
A panel of college chancellors and presidents will respond to Kanter's keynote and includes Geraldine Perri, superintendent and president of Citrus College; Constance Carroll, chancellor, San Diego Community College District; Joseph Hankin, president, Westchester Community College; Randy Smith, president, Western Oklahoma State College and president, Alliance of Rural Community Colleges; and Gina Cortés-Suárez, president, Miami Dade, Community College, InterAmerican Campus.
